HOW CHIROPRACTIC CAME TO BE 2 OF 4
The year was 1895 when upon examining of Harvey Lillard’s spine; D.D. Palmer found out that Lillard’s had a displaced vertebra pressing against the nerves. Once he adjusted the vertebra, he was able to fix Lillard’s deafness and heart trouble. Thus was formed the art and science of Chiropractic.
Palmer coined the term “Chiropractic” from the Greek words “cheir”, meaning hand, and “praxis”, meaning action, when he realized that people who came to him with different conditions responded well to his so called “hand treatments”.
Palmer then changed the name of his clinic in Davenport, Iowa to Palmer School and Infirmary of Chiropractic. He accepted his first students in 1898.
