Dogs and lifestyle

Filed under: QUALITY PUPS — fworth @ 4:36 pm

For some these two notions might seem too far apart to present any similarities. But still, more than we know, dogs as object of our love or repulsion, affect our lifestyle.

Each and every one of us has gone through at least one experience that included a dog. Whether sad or fortunate, these experiences exist and cannot be ignored. As every other marking moment emotions triggered by a dog at some point influent our ways from that moment on.

Just for fun I want to show you what I mean by giving a rather unknown example to prove my point.

Let’s say you are over 30 and tried already every diet in the world to loose a few ponds. And naturally, nothing worked. Well, one evening, rainy evening of course, you come across a little fluffy puppy abandoned just next to the garbage can in front of your house. You don’t necessarily like dogs, but this one seems different and so alone, maybe even a little sick, that you feel pity (you think) for him and take him in…just for the night. And then you keep him another night, and another one till he officially becomes your pet – you can’t deny it anymore. You walk him every day at fixed hours and, although you forgot all about your weight problem being too busy petting the little pet, you amazingly reached undreamed results in that particular problem. Surprised?

You shouldn’t be, it’s known (by some at least) that regular daily 10 – 15 minutes walks are the best diet of all. Try them on your own and you might get bored and give up. But with a dog, the walks are a must, they have to be done, you can’t miss any of them.

So, the little innocent dog not only made you a better person since you let him into your house (and heart), but also solved the problem you had that all your determination and lost money on diet products couldn’t solve.

If I wasn’t convincing enough, just try it. Get a dog. And miraculously you will be a different person.

WALKING YOUR DOG – ELEVEN RULES

Filed under: QUALITY PUPS — fworth @ 4:43 am

When we walk our dog, no matter the destination – on the city streets, in parks or in open spaces – it is necessary that he respects the disciplinary rules settled before and learned, to avoid getting into problems with other animals or people we meet.

So let’s see how our little friend will have to act in some situations:

1. Usually, in crowded places we will keep him in a leash, to always have him under control. So he will have to know how to walk in a leash, near your foot, without pulling.

2. The dog is not allowed to jump on people or animals met or to attack any of those, as long as he isn’t aggressed.

3. The dog shouldn’t run after bicycles, motorcycles, cars or people that are running. It is know that some dogs do that because of their hunting instincts.

4. When we let the dog free, to relax, it is crucial that when he is called he return on the shortest way and as fast as possible.

5. At a picnic, the dog is not allowed to pass thought other people’s carpets or to eat their food.

6. Wherever our dog might be, he is not to be allowed to eat food given by someone else or food found thrown around.

7. Generally, small dogs are more spoiled than big dogs and they are more aggressive, anti-social and afraid of other people or dogs. The ones to blame are the owners that often amuse themselves when they see their dogs acting this way. This way the dogs get to barking and even biting their own owner.

8. The dog must have the initial training learned and practiced, so we would have no problems when walking him.

9. All through the walk, the dog is not to chew on his leash or to pull it with his teeth, because it might happen that he is tied somewhere alone and he will chew on it until he becomes free and gets lost.

10. The dog is not allowed to jump up and out his front paws on us or others even if he is just playing.

11. Pay attention to drunken people! Many times the smell, the walk and the yelling of drunken people annoy the dog. The dog is to loose his reality sense and his instincts and therefore they won’t pay attention to any of our advices. Some drunken people are even aggressive to dogs. Stay away from them as much as possible.

Why a Person Who Rescues Dogs from an Animal Shelter May Be the Happiest Kind of Individual

Filed under: QUALITY PUPS — fworth @ 10:12 pm

An individual who rescues dogs is the kind of person who will procure happiness not only for the dog but for himself/herself as well. If one is looking to add a dog to the family, then perhaps one of the best ways to do so is to rescue a dog from an animal shelter or humane society as opposed to going to a breeder to purchase the new member of the family. A person who rescues dogs from places of this kind is more likely to have a pet whose love will astound and amaze them. Everyone is happier when one rescues dogs from a shelter as opposed to purchasing from a breeder and the following will describe why this is so.

Selling Out of Kindness As Opposed to Profit

Perhaps one of the biggest differences between those working at animal shelters and those who breed and sell dogs relate to money issues. When a person rescues dogs from a shelter, they will most likely have to pay a nominal fee. The alternative to a person who rescues dogs is the individual who purchases from a breeder where hundreds if not thousands of dollars are necessary to purchase the bred dog. With this said, it is important to point out that, for the most part, individuals who work at animal shelters are dedicated to seeing the dogs go to good homes and there is really no monetary incentive for trying to place the dogs with good owners. On the other hand, with regard to breeders, these individuals are breeding dogs to make a profit. It is a business for them. Not that they don’t care for the animals, it is just that it is important to be aware of the fact that breeding is done for money not for the primary reason of giving animals a good home such as those individuals who provide animals to the person who rescues dogs.

A person that rescues dogs from the animal shelter or humane society is obtaining this dog from people who want the best for the dog. When the individual buys from a breeder as opposed to one who rescues dogs, that person is purchasing the newest member of their family from someone who may view the transaction more as a business venture than anything else.

A Person Who Rescues Dogs As Opposed to Buying from a Breeder Will Have Less Work to Do

When one purchases a dog from a breeder, as opposed to the individual who rescues dogs from a shelter, that individual will have their work cut out for them as dogs purchased from breeders are still in the puppy stage. That individual who rescues dogs will most likely get one who is older and out of the puppy stage. It should not be surprising that puppies are a lot of work. They take time, effort and patience. The person who rescues dogs from a shelter will have less work to do as the puppy stage has passed already and they often provide a home for a dog which is more mature.

That person who rescues dogs from shelters will find that their new pet will give them an extreme amount of love and provide them so much comfort. One who rescues dogs from animal shelters is the type of person who cares about the dog’s welfare and knows exactly what the rescuing of that animal really means. Not only are these people saving lives but they are giving their new found friends new and even better lives.

Reputable Breeders: A Great Place to Find Adorable Puppies for Sale

Filed under: QUALITY PUPS — fworth @ 10:09 pm

When individuals are searching for their new best friends, i.e. puppies, there are a few factors which should be considered prior to embarking on the search for puppies for sale. After one has considered what type of puppies they are looking into buying, they need to then decide where they will find puppies for sale. Perhaps one of the best places to purchase a puppy is through a reputable breeder.

Reasons for Using a Reputable Breeder to Purchase Puppies

There are a few different ways in which to purchase puppies such as pet stores, backyard breeders and even those somewhat suspicious puppy mills. However, the best way in which to bring a new puppy into your life is by retaining the services of a reputable breeder. There are many reasons why this is an individual’s best bet with regard to looking into puppies for sale.

The first reason to go with a reputable breeder is to choose amongst the best group of puppies in order to find the perfect one to bring home, and one knows exactly what they are getting when they purchase puppies from a reputable breeder. When breeders of this kind breed dogs to produce puppies, they know exactly which two dogs to breed so that the result is a spectacular litter of puppies. When one purchases dogs from a pet store, that individual has no idea who the parents of those particular puppies were and what their bloodline is like. With regard to backyard breeders, the puppies that often result when breeders of this type put two dogs together may not always have the best bloodlines as most of the backyard breeders are amateurs and have no real experience in the breeding industry. As for puppy mills, when compared with reputable breeders, there is no competition as reputable breeders breed in a manner which is responsible and humane whereas puppy mills often overbreed or inbreed so that the bloodline may be pure but there may be a large quantity of other problems associated with the breeding that produces the puppies.

A second reason for choosing a reputable breeder in order to purchase puppies is the fact that they are very knowledgeable when it comes to breeding facts and more specifically facts about the puppies that people are purchasing. Reputable breeders not only know a lot about puppies and breeding, but they also enjoy talking about these things. If the prospective purchaser of puppies for sale wants to inquire about various things regarding the puppy which they want to purchase, the reputable breeder will often be more than happy to listen to and answer any questions the individual may have. These types of breeders love breeding puppies and are happy to talk about it.

One last reason for looking into puppies for sale by a reputable breeder is to find the healthiest puppies possible. Most of these reputable breeders take excellent care of the breeding dogs and puppies as well. They want to ensure that all of the animals are of the utmost health and will only sell those healthy puppies to the public. They are concerned with running a good, clean business and producing healthy puppies to provide to individuals looking to give them a good home.

For these reasons, buying puppies from reputable breeders as opposed to purchasing from pet stores, backyard breeders or puppy mills will provide the new puppy owner with the healthiest, purest bloodline possible.

The Cold, Hard Facts Surrounding Puppy Mills

Filed under: QUALITY PUPS — fworth @ 10:05 pm

When individuals are looking to purchase or adopt a new puppy, they encounter many different options regarding where the puppy can be obtained from including backyard breeders, reputable breeders, pet stores or puppy mills. Each place has their pros and cons associated with them; however, puppy mills are places which should be given a closer look. Puppy mills have a wealth of cons associated with them and considerably less advantages than other types of puppy purchasing venues.

What Puppy Mills Really Are

Puppy mills are facilities where purebred puppies are produced in large quantities. The puppies that are produced in puppy mills are sold to the general public through various avenues. Ways in which prospective puppy purchasers get in touch with puppy mills are through the newspaper, flyers, word of mouth and the Internet.

Negative Factors Associated With Puppy Mills

One negative factor often associated with puppy mills that relates to the breeding process itself is the incidence of overbreeding and/or inbreeding that occurs within these puppy mills. Not only are these aspects inhumane but they often lead to a large quantity of genetically based problems later in life.

Puppy mills also produce dogs that are often malnourished and underfed. It is important to keep in mind that puppy mills operate so that the owners can make money. Puppy mills are not in daily operation for the welfare of the animals and for this reason the puppies and the breeding dogs are often overworked and underfed within the puppy mills.

Another negative factor often associated with puppy mills is the lack of interaction with humans. As most of the animals in puppy mills are caged a majority of the time, these animals have little interaction with human beings and the outside world. Only to be fed and when they are shown for sale do these puppies and breeding dogs in puppy mills interact with humans.

Overcrowded living quarters are another negative aspect of puppy mills. Due to the large quantity of breeding that takes place, these puppy mill residents are often put into small cages with one another. The more puppies these puppy mills have to accommodate, the less room the puppies have to be mobile.

A lack of adequate veterinary care is often associated with puppy mills. Breeders and animal shelters will often make sure that their animals are healthy, well-cared for and seen by veterinarians to establish these factors. With regard to puppy mills, the puppies and breeder dogs see veterinarians on very rare occurrences and therefore, may have a large amount of health problems that are undiagnosed and will be discovered at a later time.

One last reason why puppy mills are viewed in a negative fashion is due to the euthanasia that occurs with some of the residents of the puppy mills. The breeder dogs can only do so much for so long and once they have fulfilled their purpose in the eyes of the puppy mills, they are often put to sleep.

Although most puppy mills legally produce purebred puppies for the general public and supply puppies for sale to individuals interested in purchasing them, it is important to be aware of some of the negative factors listed above which plague the puppy mill industry and take that into consideration when looking to purchase a family pet.

BENEFITS ABOUT HAVING QUALITY PUPS INSTEAD OF MIXED PUPS

Filed under: QUALITY PUPS — fworth @ 8:40 pm

There are numerous benefits of having a quality pup. First let us know what a quality pup is. Since conformation showing is judged on a dog’s appearance in relation to the written standard or description of the breed, flaws as simple as color, markings, coat texture and the amount of tail curl can prevent a puppy from being graded show quality by its breeder or owner.

Performance events for the quality pups require keen aptitude, which a good breeder can sense in a young puppy. The next definition is subtler; show dog breeders usually develop a certain signature look to the kennel. A kennel may be known for certain head type, certain colorations, builds, movement, performance ability, retrieving aptitude etc. A show dog breeder will be able to recognize, even in seven-week-old puppies, which puppies best represent the breeding program and therefore should be placed, if possible, where they will be shown and potentially bred, thus promoting the breeder’s programs. The other puppies may be wonderful show prospects also, but not quite as good as their litter-mates and a breeder may choose to place those show quality puppies in companion homes.

What is most important, however, is that the correct puppy is matched with the correct home, be it a show home or a companion home and both types of homes are equally important. The right home gives that puppy the best chance of a life-long loving and caring relationship with its owner.

There are good reasons to choose a purebred and not a mixed puppy, what you choose depends on your needs or desires. Here are some of disadvantages of mixed pups.

Some disadvantages of mixed puppies are that if you get a puppy, you do not know what it will look like when fully-grown. Mixed puppies are less likely to have been carefully raised than purebred puppies from a responsible breeder.

The mixed puppies are highly unpredictable in size, traits and temperament is far less predictable. A mixed breed owner should be more open to unexpected traits and willing to train the puppy properly to control them.

By choosing a mixed puppy, you may be getting the best, or the worst, of that breed. This is something to always keep in mind. Also, not knowing the parents, or the owners, could make a mixed puppy a real scary choice. One of the things to keep in mind is that with proper socialization and training, most dogs, but not all, will become loyal, trustworthy companions and family members. Even purebreds need the proper care and training to reach this point.

Parents are typically not screened for hereditary health problems or temperament and accurately identifying “breed” types is difficult at best, especially in young animals. If the adult size or allergies are a potential problem you must consider the possibility that your “Beagle mix” could grow up to weigh 70 pounds and have long wavy hair.

It can sometimes be difficult to meet the mixed breeds parent and viewing the parents and other adult relatives is your best indicator of how your puppy would grow up to look and act.
